Description

PRICE REDUCED!! Eastern Shore Classic Cars is excited to present a very special car for your consideration. It is a 1929 Studebaker GL Series Dictator. The Dictator series was produced by Studebaker from 1927 thru 1937. As they made refinements the Model designations changed, often without regard to a “model year.” In 1929 Studebaker introduced the “New and Finer” Dictator Six at a lower price. This headline greeted buyers in June of 1929. The longer, lower, more contoured body design, which appeared earlier on the higher priced Commander and President was now incorporated into the Dictator models. The GL Dictator was referred to by the factory as a 1929-1930 model. Here are some of the important features of the “New and Finer” Dictator GL: 115’’ wheelbase; improved and refined Dictator motor which for two years already held all speed and endurance records for stock cars under $1300; hydraulic shock absorbers front and rear; fore-shackled front springs; thin grip, steel core, safety steering wheel; fully adjustable front seats and steering wheel; genuine mohair upholstery; amplified action four-wheel brakes; double drop frame of compound flange design; full vision, full ventilating steel bodies over hardwood foundation; all exterior brightwork in chromium. The car we have for sale is a 1929 Studebaker GL Dictator, body style Q-3. It is a 4-passenger rumble seat coupe. Powered by a straight 6, it has fairly low rear end gearing, making it perfect for easy cruising. The GL was produced from June of 1929 – May of 1930. Based on the serial # this is a late production car, being part of the last 15% of the total production. Based on the fact that approximately 17,000 GLs were made and this car’s body number of 1074, this 4-passenger coupe is a rare model. This car has been lovingly cared for by its current owner of approximately 8 years, and it is only health issues that have driven the decision to find a new home for this treasure. The car was local to and known by is current owner for many years, and it was only through persistence that the car changed hands. It is mechanically sound. Issues that needed to be addressed have been done. They include things such as kingpin replacements, radiator coring, new fuel pump (it has an auxiliary electric pump which is not needed now that a correct placement in in place, refurbishing and refinishing the artillery wheels, and a repaint in a beautiful cream and tan leather color scheme about 5 years ago. The paint shows no signs of wear or deterioration. The bright work has not been touched and is dazzling. The interior cabin appears to be all original, right down to the “mother-in-law” over the rear window. It shows normal signs or wear, but no major defects. The car is driven regularly for short distances in the pleasant months, accumulating about 3-4000 miles during this ownership. The odometer shows approximately 87000 miles but true mileage is unknown. This is a car ready to drive and enjoy. (See the videos) It is a winner at any local show and super competitive at bigger shows. In addition to this prize there are numerous parts correct for this car that go with the purchase. They include and complete engine and transmission, radiator, headlight buckets and bar, front and rear end assemblies, four artillery wheel, three correct hubcaps and more. Buyer must agree to take all parts. Condition: on a scale of 1-4 with one near perfection, we rate this car as an easy two, based on originality and high-quality restoration when needed. We strongly suggest that any prospective buyer examine the car in person or send a qualified representative to examine and report on condition.
